Gain a comprehensive understanding of management consulting concepts and practices with this four-course graduate level certificate. This certificate program prepares engineers, scientists, or other technical professionals to serve in an internal or external consultant role in various industries (e.g., aerospace, biosciences, information technology, energy, and other sectors).
This certificate is offered through a partnership with the Institute of Management Consulting USA (IMC USA). It is based on the IMC Body of Knowledge for best practices in management consulting. Upon successful completion of this series of courses, you will earn a Graduate Certificate in Management Consulting. The Graduate certificate will appear on your official University of Colorado Boulder transcript. This certificate prepares you for the IMC, USA Certified Management Consulting (CMC®) certification process.
Curriculum - 12 credit hours
EMEN 5030: Project Management Systems
A basic project management training course on how to manage teams, monitor and control projects, and present projects to stakeholders.
EMEN 5040: Quality, Strategy, and Value Creation
Introduces a contemporary model for achieving business performance excellence based on Deming’s Theory of Profound Knowledge. Course topics include Strategic Planning and Policy Deployment (Hoshin Planning); Daily Management & Employee Involvement systems; and Customer Quality Assurance models.
EMEN 5050: Leadership
An in-depth investigation of the concepts, tools, and decision-making techniques used in engineering project management and measurement of quality and productivity.
EMEN 5200: Management Consulting
Covers the basics of what one needs to know in order to perform effectively as an internal or external consultant and follows the Institute of Management Consulting’s Body of Knowledge for their Certified Management Consultant certification preparing students to achieve professional certification with that registration body as well, should they choose to do so.
