With MS, Aerospace Engineering Sciences as Primary
A student who is pursuing the MS, Aerospace Engineering Sciences degree (Primary) and wishes to also obtain the ME, Engineering Management degree must complete the following requirements.
1. A total of 30 semester hours (including courses, seminars and thesis hours), at least 24 semester hours of which must be completed at the 5000 level or above, with no more than 12 semester hours outside of ASEN or 3 credit hours from seminars counted.
2. Up to 6 credits can be taken at the 4000 level in related engineering, math and science departments (ECEN, CVEN, MCEN, CHEN, CSCI, ATOC, ASTR, PHYS, MCDB, APPM, MATH, CHEM, IPHY, GEOL, ENVD).
3. Two to four required courses (6-12 semester hours) as defined by the student’s focus area must be taken in the student’s primary focus/thrust area and one required course (3 semester hours) must be taken in a second focus/thrust area.
4. One math course (3 semester hours) in ASEN, APPM or MATH.
5. Students may take an ASEN 6000 level seminar for credit only once (1 semester hour).
6. Students may take an ASEN 6000 level seminar for credit (where they present research) only once (2 semester hours). Students should tell the graduate advisor that they will be presenting researc so they are enrolled in the correct number of semester hours (2).
7. A maximum of three ASEN seminar credits count toward the MS degree. Seminar credits earned in other disciplines do not count toward the MS degree.
8. Students must fulfill a graduate project requirement (6 credit hours) consisting of either: (1) MS thesis, (2) Graduate Projects I and II, or (3) required courses leading to an approved Certificate
9. Graduate Projects (ASEN 5018/6028) is a two-semester course sequence designed to expose MS and PhD students to project management and systems engineering disciplines while working a complex aerospace engineering project as part of a project team. The course is also open to students in other engineering departments with the approval of the project professor.
10. Completion of all degree requirements within four years from the date of commencing coursework, normally completed in one to two years.
11. Pass all courses with a grade of B- or better, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
12. Pre-approval of certificate programs offered outside the department is required. Further information is contained in the Aerospace Engineering Sciences Graduate Handbook.
13. Be admitted to the Engineering Management Program.
14. As part of either program the following seven courses must be completed:
- EMEN 5010 Introduction to Engineering Management
- EMEN 5020 Finance and Accounting for Engineering Managers
- EMEN 5030 Introduction to Project Management –or- EMEN 5031 Software Project Management
- EMEN 5040 Quality, Strategy, and Value Creation
- EMEN 5050 Leadership
- EMEN 5900 Research Methods –or- EMEN 5825 Entrepreneurial Business
- One EMEN elective course other than EMEN 5000 or EMEN 5005
15. 15 credit hours of courses at the 5000 level or above are shared between the dual degrees with the exception of EMEN 5000 Engineering Analysis and EMEN 5005 Intro to Applied Statistics, which cannot be applied toward the Engineering Management degree.)
16. Successfully complete the Master’s Exam.
ME Engineering Management & MS Aerospace Engineering Sciences
A student who is pursuing the ME, Engineering Management degree (Primary) and wishes to also obtain the MS, Aerospace Engineering Sciences degree must complete the following requirements.
Complete the following seven Engineering Management courses:
- EMEN 5010 Introduction to Engineering Management
- EMEN 5020 Finance and Accounting for Engineering Managers
- EMEN 5030 Introduction to Project Management –or- EMEN 5031 Software Project Managemente. EMEN 5040 Quality, Strategy, and Value Creation
- EMEN 5050 Leadership
- EMEN 5900 Research Methods –or- EMEN 5825 Entrepreneurial Business
- One EMEN elective course other than EMEN 5000 or EMEN 5005
2. Complete 9 credit hours of graduate Engineering Management electives, which may be in relevant, 5000 level or above courses from another department.
3. Successfully complete the Master’s Exam.
4. Be admitted to the Aerospace Engineering Sciences degree program.
